Free Digital Issue: The Old Schoolhouse Magazine
The September-October issue is now available HERE.
I've already read the very short, but full-of-wisdom article, You Don't Have to Swing at Every Pitch.
The birder in our family is going to love the article, Birds in Art.
Enjoy!

FREE Digital Issue: July/August The Old Schoolhouse Magazine
Whether you are taking a summer break or are continuing to homeschool through the summer, you will want to check out the July/August FREE Digital Issue
of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine.
I think the article, "My Best Friend" on page 77 in the Language Arts section looks particularly interesting. I love the quote contained in the article: "Literature that is rich in vocabulary and truthful in content builds our cognitive skills, heightens our conscience, and awakens our moral imagination."

Free Scripture Printables from Lifeway
There are lots of scriptures to choose from on their website, but these are two of my recent favorites:
(A great verse looking back at last week: Christian Home Week.)
(A great scripture for a graduate!)
(I shared about a year ago in this post other scripture printables if you are interested.)
Free Issue: May/June The Old Schoolhouse Magazine
HERE is the May/June issue! Enjoy!
Do you know what 4 crucial skills your homeschooler needs before entering college? Check out page 54 to find out!
Oh! And HERE is the March/April issue since I forgot to post it last time in the midst of our moving!
Creating Excellent High School Transcripts really piqued my interest, as we are wrapping up our very first high school year.
Enjoy all the great articles!

January/February Free Issue of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine
It's here! Check out the LATEST ISSUE of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine for homeschooling families.
There are several articles on beating those homeschool winter blues. (I've talked to lots of homeschool moms who go through this, myself included. The thing that helps us is having school by the fireplace on those cold, dreary days.)
My favorite article was: When's the Optimal Time to Master Latin? I breathed a sigh of relief since we plan to study Latin...but haven't started yet.
Happy Reading!

November/December Issue of The Old Schoolhouse (digital and free!)
The new issue is out!
I took a few minutes this morning to read Learning to Love Silence and Solitude. (I find reading an article or two from TOS is a great way to kick off my homeschool day!) It's a very short article, but one that speaks the truth whether you're a homeschooler or not.
Want to add it to your mobile device for easier reading? Go HERE for all the app options.

Free June Issue~~~The Old Schoolhouse Magazine
Go HERE to read the June issue.
I just LOVE the article, "Collage--Turning Scraps into Art"...and I just realized that the author (Pat Kneply) of that article is the same artist that I just reviewed HERE. I especially like the idea of a collage based on a book. Good idea! My wheels are turning!

Free Scripture Printables from Home Life
I discovered a great freebie as I was reading my Home Life magazine yesterday: Printable Scriptures! I've been admiring these creativly framed scriptures inside the pages of Home Life...but never realized I could print them out. Here is an example of one I really like (and it's our scripture for VBS!)...........

Here's another one of my favorite verses:

Happy Printing!

Free May Issue: The Old Schoolhouse Magazine
Go HERE to find great articles in the May 2013 issue. There are several articles about gifted and/or special needs kids. You will also find a couple of articles highlighting "spring cleaning." I was especially excited to see the article about the Impressionist artist, Mary Cassatt, since we just acquired a great card game based on Impressionist artists. There's always something for everyone...even if you're not a homeschooler!

Free Download: Adventures in Odyssey
One of my favorite magazines, Thriving Family, shared a link in their Aug/Sept 2011 issue where your child can listen to free downloads of the "Adventure in Odyssey" radio programs. I wanted to share this great resource with you.
These radio programs are designed for 8-12 year olds, but even older kids (or moms and dads) can get caught up in the stories. I remember several times listening to one of their radio programs on the way home from somewhere, then sitting in the garage listening to the radio until the story was over! We own several of the DVD's. They are great for road trips! Both "Thriving Family" and "Adventures in Odyssey" are part of the Focus on the Family Ministries.
The current free downloads are: "The Last I Do," "Do, for a change," and "For Trying out Loud." Click for your free download. Enjoy these character building stories!

The Old Schoolhouse, March Issue (free and digital!)
Check out the March 2013 FREE digital issue of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine.
I haven't had a chance to read any articles yet...but I'm sure I will this weekend. The article on "Hosting a Book Club" sounds like so much fun...something I've thought about for a long time. Maybe I'll get some good ideas.

Blog Post Find of the Day~~FREE Copywork Printables (taken from the Hobbit)
Check out the Walking by the Way blog for FREE printables. She's made copywork worksheets using parts of the Hobbit. My boys would eat this up. Copying down excellent writing is one of the best ways to learn grammar, punctuation, spelling, etc.
